Barlaston Eco House

Our client approached us to take on a challenging downsizing project that maximised the home’s eco potential. Based in Barlaston, Staffordshire, the client owned a large farmhouse on a four-acre site but wanted to downsize with minimum disruption and install measures that would decrease the running costs to improve desirability on the open market. We held detailed meetings with the client and signed off on a budget of £300,000, which enabled us to begin planning the design.

Tarpey Woodfine Architects designed and managed the construction of a new low-carbon dwelling within the grounds of their existing home. The dwelling has been built to high levels of thermal insulation and is heated via a ground source heat pump. There are also 4kw of PV solar panels on the south-facing roof and a freshwater borehole. Land Lizard designed the gardens and closely collaborated with Tarpey Woodfine Architects to ensure that the dwelling and landscaping complimented each other. The dwelling is approximately 180 sqm with four bedrooms.
