Donna Louise Hospice
Tarpey Woodfine Architects were appointed to design a new build annex to the existing hospice facility for young adults.
Donna Louise Hospice provides support for families and palliative care for children under the age of 18. They required a separate building to provide continuation of care for young adult patients who can no longer be treated in a children’s facility.
The new building was designed with treatment rooms, social spaces, adapted kitchen, landscaped garden, bedrooms, specialist bathrooms and office spaces.
It was a privilege to be involved in the project, learning about the incredible work that the team at the Hospice do every day. We were involved in the project from start to finish – from developing concept designs and planning process navigation, to detailed design work and project delivery as part of a design and build contractor team.
The centre was designed around patients, with large spaces for wheelchair circulation, specialist bathrooms and bespoke furniture in the lounges and bedrooms. The young adult end users and nurse teams were key to the design process, participating in regular meetings and workshops, particularly with regard to interior design and furnishings.
